What is a derivative?

Stock Photo Derivatives

iStockphoto Tip: It is important that any photos stock you upload to stock photography sites are entirely your own creation, and not derivative of other works. An image is derivative if: *It's been colored, cropped or somehow altered or is a transformed copy of a pre-existing image. *It is a pre-existing photo with expressive elements altered. *It's a photograph of a photograph. Don't be tempted to try and pass off a derivative photo as your own, even if you have changed it greatly. You will likely be sorry in the long run.
